Obituary for Gloria M. Decker

Gloria M. Decker, 89, passed quietly from this life on Sunday, July 10, 2022, in UPMC Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg. Born in Harrisburg, the daughter of Simon and Helen (Sharp) Dean, she was a lifelong resident of Steelton and a 1951 graduate of Steelton High School.

Gloria was a secretary and receipts clerk for her late husband’s business, Harold Decker Ceramic Tile, for many years, and Church secretary for St. John’s Lutheran Church, Steelton, for several Pastors. She sang in the choir and was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and also sang in the Sweet Adelines Choral group.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harold A. Decker; sisters, Mariam Brightbill, Evelyn Lewis and Patricia Neidinger; brothers, Robert Dean, William Dean and Alvin Dean. Survivors include her children, David A. Decker of Mechanicsburg, Patti Ann Leer of Carlisle and Robert D. Decker, and his wife Pamela, of Dillsburg; a sister, Betty Putt of Dillsburg, a brother, Ronald Dean of Harrisburg; and grandchildren, Rachel Decker, Megan Leer, Abigail Decker-Moore, and her husband Todd Moore, and Victoria Decker.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated in Hall & Stone Funeral Home, 112 North Harrisburg Street, Steelton, on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 11AM, with her Pastor, Vicar Rose Tolkin officaiting. Interment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Friday, July 15, from 6-8PM and Saturday, July 16 from 10-11AM.

  1. We were sorry to read about Gloria’s passing. We knew Gloria and Harold through The Steelton/ Harrisburg East Roatary Club. They were a wonderful couple Gloria will be missed. She will be using her wonderful voice in Heaven. God be the famly and give you strength In out Prayers

  2. Auntie Glo will always be remembered in our hearts and memories not only as our Aunt but as a very close friend. We feel privileged to have spent so much time with her for so many years. She was very special to us.

  3. To Mrs. Decker’s family,

    I did not know Mrs. Decker, but her late husband, Harold completed a large, fine tile installation in our
    new home outside of New Cumberland in 1992…he often spoke of his wife and family during the
    several months he worked on our house. My late husband and I enjoyed knowing him, and through him,
    his wife.

  6. I am saddened to hear of Gloria’s passing. She was a member of my church. We sang in the choir together. She was always so kind. Let the church kids swim in her pool. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

  7. I will miss her get togethers July and December. She and Uncle Harold will not miss 50 half drunken sodas all over the patio! So many memories of a kind, sweet lady. Rest in peace
