Obituary for M. Lee Loser Jr. D.O.

M. Lee Loser, Jr. D.O., 96, passed from this life on Friday, April 15, 2022 in his home with his family by his side. “DOC” as he was known by many, was born in Harrisburg, the son of Morgan L. and Kathryn L. (Smeltzer) Loser Sr. He graduated from John Harris High School in 1944, enlisted in the US Navy at Bainbridge, MD where he completed basic training and Quartermaster school. Lee served on the USS Warhawk and USS Isherwood during WWII until his discharge in 1946. He attended Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster and graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy (now the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine) in1952. Following his internship in Philadelphia, he began his family practice in Harrisburg from 1953-1967 and served as team physician for John Harris High School Athletics from 1958-1966. In 1967, he relocated his practice to Steelton and remained there until his retirement in 1991. Board certified in family practice, he was a member of the Osteopathic Hospital active medical staff on Front Street, Harrisburg from 1953 until the hospital’s relocation to Lower Paxton Township as the Community General Osteopathic Hospital in 1970 until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, American College of Osteopathic Family Practitioners, Tall Cedars of Lebanon and American Legion. He was also a 64 year life member as a 32nd* Freemason with the Robert Burns Lodge #454, Harrisburg Consistory and the Zembo Shrine.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Marlene M. Hess Loser, son, Jeffrey A. (Colleen) of York; daughter, Stacy l. of Tucson, AZ; grandson, Adam M. (Kristen L. Kirk) of Hamilton, VA; granddaughter, Kelley R. Goodyear (Kyle) of York; step children, Terry L. Hess, Wendy Sue Smith, Miriam Anne Walker and Paul Olen Hess. Also surviving are 5 great grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated in Paxton Church of the Brethren, 6445 Lyters Lane, Harrisburg, on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 11AM with the Pastors Joann Maurer and Janet Myers officiating. Light lunch will be served following the interment in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Paxton Church of the Brethren, any Veterans organization or ProMedica Hospice, 1200 Walnut Bottom Road, Suite 302, Carlisle, PA 17015. Arrangements entrusted to Hall & Stone Funeral Home, Steelton.
